Funny that I had to consider whether or not to put off my run for a bit today to get a quick charge on the MP3. I don't run without it. I may not always be paying attention to what is playing, but it is there, it is comfort. But, with the early departure of daylight that comes with winter, I could not delay. Without the tunes, I had the great (mis)fortune of listening to my random thoughts. My first thought as I ran about a mile on Warmspring for a while was, "I bet the people going by me at 70 mph think I am flat out crazy". I know I used to wonder what would ever be so daggone important for someone to run out in the cold. I mean, seriously, hit a treadmill or just relax, but do it inside! I even made declarations to some friends last year as I began my love/hate relationship with running that I would NEVER feel so inclined to run outside below 50 degrees. So I felt good, because even if they thought I was crazy, I knew I wasn't! Hal Higdon (marathon training guru) wants me to run 6 miles today, so I will! And since the treadmill hurts me more than the pavement, I will do it outside...in my tights. I mean, perhaps Hal may be crazy, but I am not! Haha world, take that! tomorrow is supposed to be colder with more wind, and instead of doing 6, Hal wants me to do 13...so I will be there. Honk when you see me, and know that I am not crazy...yet!
I'm training without headphones now since the marathon I'm doing does not allow them and will actually disqualify you if you use them. It's definately hard, but I've considered going without music for most of the time I've been running so this gave me a reason. Keep up the hard work, you'll be ready to go in plenty of time for your race.
